Dear St. Bernard Parish Families,
We want to update you on the Social Media posts that have been circulating over the last few days containing screenshots of messages with possible threats of school violence. Superintendent Doris Voitier participated in a Zoom call today with Superintendents in Terrebonne, St. Charles, St. John, Ascension, and Orleans Parishes, all of whom are also currently experiencing these messages being shared and reposted throughout their school systems.
Fox 8 has just released an article, linked below, that explains the situation in more depth. According to the article, the threatening messages originated in California and are currently spreading across school districts throughout the country. The article states that schools in Lafourche, Tangipahoa, and St. Tammany parishes have also been affected by these messages. We have word from school districts in Mississippi and Colorado, as well as a private school in New Orleans, that they are also experiencing the sharing and reposting of these messages.
Please read the article from Fox 8 for more details on the situation. As always, the safety of our students and staff is paramount. Messages with threats of school violence like the ones currently being shared across so many communities are distressing by nature and not to be taken lightly. We thank you for your understanding. If you receive additional messages or have any questions or concerns about this situation, please contact your school administrators, the School Board Office, and the Sheriff’s Department.
